Merry Christmas, and to the British folks, Happy Christmas! Hope you are all having a wonderful day however you’ve chosen to spend it. I thought now would be the perfect time to spread a little Christmas cheer by sharing some photos of Christmas decorations I found while visiting Hong Kong and Tokyo recently.

Large Christmas Tree in the lobby of my hotel
For some inexplicable reason, both Hong Kong and Tokyo are very fond of blue and purple Christmas decorations and some hotels, malls, and Corporate businesses get a little outlandish with their designs.

Giant Christmas bunny attacks in Hong Kong's Times Square
The Times Square area of Hong Kong was flush with Christmas decorations in late November, but the most puzzling element was a giant bunny rabbit leaping onto street level from the first 2nd floor of the building. Maybe I’m not up on my Christmas lore, but I think this may be the most random Christmas decoration ever.

Christmas decorations at the Harbour City mall entrance in Hong Kong
Next up, a visit to Harbour City, the largest mall in Hong Kong – and as such their Christmas decorations are pretty extreme. They have a very long staircase leading up to the entrance and the canopy overhead have every kind of Christmas decoration ever – gold stars, ice crystals, purple poinsettia (what did I say about the purple?), acorns, garland and ornaments. Just for reference, I didn’t take a picture of a random couple, that’s Lois and Bryan who acted as my Hong Kong tour guides.

Future space-themed train station Christmas Lights display in Tokyo

Christmas train taking off!
In Tokyo, it was the Corporate light displays that impressed me more than the ones at the malls; if just for the creative themes. This one was built on an old train station and featured a train taking flight and the rest of the decorations around it depicted a futuristic space train station – yes, it makes perfect sense.

A sea of lights at Caretta in Shiodome

An overhead view
And lastly, the most over-the-top light display – literally a sea of Christmas lights at Caretta in Shiodome. Shiodome is a business district so there’s not a lot of people around in the evening, but as you can see, there was a big crowd gathered around this Christmas attraction. Every now and then there was a laser light display synced to music and the purple Christmas tree in the center had a hollowed out center where people would pose and take pictures.
Merry Christmas!
